Tech Talk Menorca
The Tech Talk in Menorca was real success. The actual event took place in a barn on Martin’s farm that had a real chill-out and laid-back feel. Ironically with so many techies and geeks (including Jens), it was suprisingly cool. With the help of vpod.tv, Loic has created Loic.tv with all of the videos of the different speakers. On Friday night at dinner, Loic also came up with an initiative, in jest, to create a cyber community for the overweight.

In Menorca
I am in Menorca for a few days at my boss‘ farm house to help him out with an informal tech entrepreneur’s conference that he is hosting. It’s funny to watch all of them with their computers open ALL THE TIME and with two cell phones each and an array of other gadgets. While I am writing this, I have just been given a lecture on the benefits of switching to Ubuntu and abandoning Microsoft altogether.
In any event, Menorca is such a beautiful place, and my boss’ farm is the perfect place to enjoy it. More pix to come.

Haciéndole la pelota al Jefazo Feliz
Hoy es el cumple del jefazo, Martin, y como buenos empleados hemos hecho la pelota. Ayer por la tarde Diego C y yo estuvimos “brainstorming” para montar el regalito perfecto para el jefe. Es un fanático de los gadgets, pero ya los tiene todos. Entonces decidimos meter una caricatura en la página web diciendo “Happy Birthday Martin”. Le íbamos a mandar después un email diciendo que hubo un gravísimo error en la página. Entre los cracks de desarrollo y diseño (Elena, Miguel Angel, Eloy, Iban, y cía) lo pudimos sacar. Picó y le encantó. Desafortunamente no nos concedió la tarde libre.
En fin, la verdad es que es muy divertido ver como Martin disfruta tanto con su cumpleaños.

Dorothy y sus cocineras
Dorothy estrenó casa el sábado y para ello contó con la ayuda voluntaria de la ONG “Compañeras sin Foneras” compuesta por Neska y Elena. Ellas pusieron las recetas de la madre de Dorothy a la práctica . Todo lo demás es historia para los que recuerdan. No One Writes to the Colonel
My father never answers the phone when it rings, and whenever I ask why, he always responds with the title of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ “No One Writes to the Colonel“. In other words, why should he answer if no one is calling for him. Alternatively, a phone that does not ring reminds me of the lines from a Randy Travis song, “The phone isn’t ringing so I assume it still ain’t you.”
After checking my personal email account (as opposed to my FON account) and seeing absolutely no new emails for the umpteenth consecutive day, I realized that no one is writing the colonel here either. As a matter of fact, my personal telephone (as opposed to my FON Blackberry) hasn’t received an incoming calls since Saturday. This got me to thinking that it’s about time to amend my very first Grave Error entry, 20 Things that I Cannot Do Because I Work at FON. Of course, were the phone to ring and the email inbox full, I would be annoyed by the disturbance. You just can’t win, can you? Either that or I am much less of a colonel that I suspected.

Dorothy, ya no estamos en Bilbao
Anoche fuimos algunos de la vieja guardia (sólo Neska que es una recien nacida) de FON a cenar para conocer un poco mejor a una nueva incorporación al equipo. En principio no tendría que sorprenderse ella con nuestro grupito compuesto por la Ninja, Borja el Bookie, Kung Fu Jordi, Roberto Largo, Neska, la Moniac, o el que simplemente llamamos Teo. A lo mejor sí por el Padrino argentino impredecible, Santi.
Al final, nosotros en FON somos gente normal. No somos tan freakies. Simplemente amamos un poco más al WiFi que los demás. Somos cada uno personas que están buscando su huequito en este mundo, donde pueden ser felices y quizás con un poco de suerte también hacer felices a los demás. Y sobre todo, nos gustan los abrazos fuertes.
No nos falta ni coraje, ni corazón, ni cerebro. Sin embargo, si hablamos en estos términos del Mago de Oz, habrá una sola persona que le habrá podido, quizás, asustar a nuestro nuevo fichaje. Continue reading
