I have the utmost respect for those who leave everything behind and move to a new country in search of a better existence. Consequently, I have no tolerance for those who criticize immigrants or immigration in general. If you ever have a chance, listen to an immigrant’s story, and you will see the bravery in her plight.

Como apenas duermo ni como desde que trabajo en FON, decidí pasarme el fin de semana con mi familia mallorquina. Es que en Mallorca con Manolo y su familia como y duermo mejor que en cualquier otro sitio del mundo (menos que en mi propia casa con mi familia genética). De hecho, siempre que me urge la necesidad de estar con “familia” o viajo a Mallorca o quedo en Madrid con Fernando y Amparo (los abuelos de mi ahijada).

Bill Clinton was probably the US’ most charismatic president. Of course, people either loved or hated him. What I could never understand is why, even at moments when I thought I had lost respect for the man or even when I knew he was just b.s.ing, he could still move me with one of his speeches. I mean, think about it. Here’s a guy from Georgetown University and from Yale with a redneck twang in his voice.
Then one day it hit me. Bill Clinton sounds a lot like Elvis Presley when he talks. That is what essentially makes him so listen-to-able. Bill is from Little Rock and Elvis was from Memphis. They are pretty close, both geographically and culturally. Listen carefully next time you hear Bill speak, close your eyes, imagine it is the King. Actually, there was a book written about Bill being the Rock and Roll President.
So, what does Bill Clinton sounding like Elvis Presley have to do with Milan Kundera, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker and my Grandmother?

Karissa is my new friend and co-worker. She embodies that line from the Billy Joel song, “Always a Woman to Me”, “she is frequently kind and she’s suddenly cruel”. Except that with Karissa it is the other way around, “she is frequently cruel and suddenly kind.”
