Great Interview with Ejovi

I just visited Ejovi’s blog and found these videos from a 2005 PBS interview discussing his book Hacker Cracker. I don’t pretend to know Ejovi that well, but I did get to know him a little bit during the time he worked with us at FON and during a short stay in Madrid.

These two (of four) videos are particularly interesting as he discusses the American experience of growing up in Brooklyn (somewhat reminiscent of my family’s Bronx Tale), the very entrepreneurial nature of those who are bred in depressed American neigbhorhoods, and the importance of information technology. He even alludes to gentrification, a topic dear to my Bro’s heart. The final two videos are available as well on his blog. Check them out!

¡Gracias, chicos!

Japan’s BlogTV comes to Spain and to FON

Japan’s BlogTV came to Madrid to spend some time with FON and to celebrate our FON One Year Anniversary Party. They came with members of our FON Japan team including Nina and Joi Ito (a FON advisor in Japan). In these videos, you get to see Joi Ito in different meetings in Madrid with Martin, Alex, many different people from FON’s Madrid office, at the FON Party, and with my friend, Anil Mello from MobuzzTV.

The FON Party

In a previous post, I mentioned how on February 6, 2007, FON celebrated its first anniversary with a big party at the Teatro Lara in Madrid, and I included two videos of speeches from the event. I also lamented about how my particular role in the party had still not been uploaded. Well, here is what appears to be the final video. Unfortunately, it only includes the very tail end of my speech where I come off as even dorkier than usual and am robbed of my undeserved protaganism. Fortunately, the video shows people getting down and jiggy, as well as the Spoof Video.

Two Videos from FON’s First Anniversary Party

Here are two more videos from FON’s First Anniversary Party. The first one is Antonio Saez, General Manager of FON Spain. The second one is Martin Varsavsky, the CEO and Founder of FON. As I have mentioned, I was in charge of moderating. I first introduced Antonio, and after Antonio’s speech, I then spoke and presented the FON employee’s Spoof Video. Then Ola (the Swedish country manager) introduced Martin, and Antonio and I ended by giving away Skype Phones.

For the time being, my portions of the evening have not yet been published by Vpod.tv. Let’s hope I am not being censored. I do believe, though, that they will in fact upload my part and scenes from the rest of the event as well.

Spoof Video for FON’s First Anniversary Party

On Tuesday night, FON celebrated its First Year Anniversary at the Teatro Lara in Madrid. This is a spoof video that some of us employees made. This video was produced by Jorge, Elena and Iurgi and filmed and edited by Vpod.tv. Thanks to Martin’s great sense of humor, none of us lost our jobs, especially me who had the arduous role of imitating him.

Hopefully soon we’ll have the video of my moderating fiasco.

Unfortunately

Unfortunately, I am a much better public speaker than I am a lawyer. Unfortunately, I am not THAT funny and surely not funny enough to make a living doing stand-up. Unfortunately, what I really love to do most is to find ways to express myself through words (public speaking or writing), but I am only pleasant to read or listen to in small doses. Unfortunately, I am fairly shy one on one, but very outgoing when in front of a crowd. Unfortunately, orgies aren’t my thing. Unfortunately, at my age, I still quite haven’t found a place professionally to fully satisfy my “expressive” needs. But, fortunately, I do have a place where I am building something with others and having some fun.

Soon to come are the videos from the FON One Year Anniversary Party, where as seen in the picture (thanks to Teo), I was able to moderate and do a little public speaking. Unfortunately, I am definitely not photogenic and end up looking more of a blurry geek, poser than what I really am.

Another Failed Attempt

A friend and co-worker at FON, (who I will not name) is one of the nicest guys I know. He is also very mature and intelligent for his age, and has a position of considerable importance in the company. But, no matter how hard he tries, he just can’t quite seal the deal.

We have callled many emergency sessions to discuss strategic planning, and yet it is all to no avail. Even Tuesday night at FON’s One Year Anniversary Party where he appeared to have more options than anyone else on the guest list, he returned home empty-handed. My immediate diagnosis would be that he is an “enamoradizo” that distracts him from focusing. Consequenly, I dedicate this classic Beatles’ tune . . .
